I am running windows XP and need to clean up my registry, anyone any ideas please as-to the best way to do this?, it really needs def raging but XP does not appear to have that facility, can anyone help please?.

Don’t get CCleaner or any other free cleaner – they don’t do anything. It just looks through your registry and finds the most files it can to make itself look good. It then tries to "clean" them and consequently causes more problems with your PC. Stay away from it….

The most reliable and powerful registry cleaner I’ve used is one called "RegCure". You can read more about what it does here: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html

You can also clean temporary files and control which programs start when your computer does. It’s an excellent program for giving your PC a little cleanup.

[edit] Windows XP does have a defragmentation utility built in. It will be in the Control Panel under "Performance & Maintenance".

  9. I think that the best Registry cleaner is using no registry cleaner at all. The times I did use a registry cleaner I started to have problems. I suggest you just use the disk cleaner that is already built in XP. Click on the following to access it:Start, Accessories,System Tools, and Disk Clean up. For the disk defragmenter I like to use this free one I downloaded:

It will tell you your system is not optimized at the end because they are hoping you buy the companies other software but that is optional and in my opinion unnecessary. So first run the disk cleanup and after that is finished run the disk defragmenter. I myself would stay away from the registry cleaners. I don’t use it and my computer is running just fine.I run both disk cleanup and defrag almost daily so I don’t have to wait a long time for it to finish but you can do it every 2-3 weeks if you like.

  11. As always, when an asker is asking for a good registry cleaner, nearly all answers are CCleaner.
I am not recommending CCleaner, I recommend Comodo Registry Cleaner.
Here is a link, telling you you about CCleaner and Comodo Reg, Cleaner.
