Most computers actually run slow because of a hidden part of your system, which is constantly being used by Windows. This part of your PC is called the "registry" and is the central database for Windows, which stores everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper. It's one of the most important parts of Windows and can easily make your PC run slow. The more corrupt registry files your computer has, the more it struggles to read them. The files which makes it run slower and slower. To fix this, you simply need to use a registry cleaner http://computer-e-book-money.com/ . These are small software tools which actually work by scanning through the registry and fixing any bad files that are in there. This then allows Windows to read as many files as it wants, when it wants to.
References :
Haha i like the guys answer with getting the Linux distro as a solution hehe

You can do a few tweaks to your computer to solve the issue

Go to system properties > Advanced > Under Performance choose "Settings" > Then choose "Adjust for best performance" > Then on the list in the window go to bottom and tick "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" then click "Apply"

This should help your performance, if you want to know more you go to youtube they have plenty of tweaking videos with step by step instructions. Also if you want to get rid of the sluggish issues of your computer performance you can put your computer back to factory default settings lol make sure to back up your important files! If the issue still persist after that you may have issue with a hardware plus with 4 GIG of ram you should be using a 64 BIT OS!
References :
This is a totally free fix and tune up pc place:

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/defau…

Does everything. Give it time to work. It will fixed up hosed pc. Make a list of everything that needs adjustment, may take couple or three hours.

Then you tell it to fix up the stuff listed. Give it TIME, at least 10 minutes.

Oh, wow. You already upgraded to Windows 7. Too bad you did not know about this other place before.

Well, I think it fixes Windows 7 too, pretty sure. Something not quite right. Are you SURE your pc hardware was adequate for Windows 7 installation?

It is fairly spiffy hardware. I would think you should have AT LEAST 500 Gb HDD though.

Try that OneCare Live.

If that does not help you need a Geeky Type to assist.

You do not have that program called AntiVir2010 on there do you?

That is known to foul up the works. See previous Answers by clicking Bear icon. Questions about how to remove that AntiVir2010.

Sounds like you are not too far below Geek Grade 1 yourself. You should be able to do this.
