I got some spyware/malware/virus thing on my laptop. I did the steps on malwarehelp.org for removing ave.exe files which led me through an update to the registry, removal of the malware, and clean up of the system. I had to do it twice and the 3rd scan came back clean. Now I have 2 residual issues. 1 is that if I do a search say on Yahoo, when I click a link on the results it will take me somewhere else, like a random shopping page or something. But if I type in the exact URL in the browser, then its fine. The 2nd issue is that sometimes a new browser window will open on its on, no rhyme or reason. It seems to be worse in IE8 than Firefox but I’m still scared
If all else fails I guess I can run my restore disk but I hate to. Ideas??
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware should be able to get rid of most Malware, it has always helped for me when i needed to get rid of Malware.

You could also try SUPERAntiSpyware which might be able to get rid of it if Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware fails to do so.

Both are these programs are free to download and use. They are also 100% safe and easy to use.
Try TDSSKiller from Kaspersky, it’s free, simply download, extract all from the zip file and double click to run. Command window will open, just let it run through, takes less than a minute and if any rootkits are found hit Y on keyboard to remove and reboot:
