I have already run Advance System Care (disk cleaner, disk defrag, security defense, spyware removal, registry fix, privacy sweep, junk file clean), CC Cleaner, downloaded AVG, and deleted several programs that are not used frequently, but the PC still runs incredibly slow. It almost seems worse than before I did anything.
Any ideas…
Well, you’ve got a great combination of programs to keep your PC clean. It’s definitely not viruses, but in case it is, download Super Anti Spyware and run a full scan with it. It finds more viruses than AVG and deletes tons of cookies.
Sounds like your computer is just old. Right-click on my computer and click Properties to view your processing speed. If your processor is a single core, it’s gonna run a lot slower. An average processor would be 2.0 GHz, dual core. That should be good for any regular activities. If you want to game a lot, a quad core would be best.
Also, check your hard drive space. Go to My Computer and mouse over your main hard drive; it will tell you how much total space and used space you have. A nice hard drive is anything around 250 GB or higher. If you make films and do photography, maybe a 500 GB or 1 TB would be best. A 500 GB is around 80-100 bucks depending on your model. Once your used hard drive space gets over 60%, it starts to really hurt your speed, so keep that in mind.
Also, make sure you have the latest version of Javascript and Adobe Flash Player. Maybe installing Directx9 would help a bit too. If your computer specs check out to all this, it’s probably just so old that the motherboard is giving in. If your computer doesn’t meet these features, that could be the reason. Buying a new tower would fix it, every tower they sell nowadays have Windows 7 and pretty nice hardware. A good tower would be anywhere from 300-400 dollars. Good luck
Try shut down any services in the background, in task manager. Search for each of the entries on googles to find out; whether it is safe to shut it down permanently.
