why didnt my mcafee or windows defender find the security virus that charged me $51.00?

this window popped up calling itself the security removal.. wouldnt let me execute any of my programs unless i purchased it for 49.99 then used a bank of america captcha type deal to get my social.. when the charge of "verisign" came to 1059.00 I pushed cancel and it, the hoax pushed the transaction through.. it was listed on my statement as creativity-soft from Moscow.. i had to cancel my card.. reset my online banking info and file a claim.. why didnt macafee or defender find this? when i ran my superantispyware free addition it caught all of the hoax..

Last.. I have ATF, Ccleaner, Mcafee, Windows Defender that came with Win 7.. I need a FREE registry cleaner. How often should I defrag my system and last.. in my McAfee Security Center, when i go to the Manage Nework tab I have My computer with my name, then on the top i have what appears to be my wirless or my modem, connected to that is the internet. Directly below my router icon are 9 other computers networked with the ip address as; 192.168.2.4, 192.168.2.6,192.168.2.9, 192.168.2.8,192.168.2.9, 192.168.2.10, 192.168.2.11, PCUSER1-PC (which could be my desktop downstairs), STEVEN-PC AND VISTA. They all have little computer screen icons with ? marks which i know men they are not protected by McAfee. My router is not secured so are other people getting in to my system?

I know there is a lot here but I would really appreciate anyone that can give me some assistance. Thank you so much!

Ok, Mcafee and windows defender are very bad security programs. Get a very good program such as Nod32 or free ones — Avira AntiVir and Malware Bytes Anti Malware. Sorry to hear you got scammed.

first secure your router do this by going into your admin panel and changing it to either a WEP key or VPN (google this for your router) secondly defragging isnt something you need to do often just every so often make it say i dunno every 3 months erm do you have 9 different wireless devices in your house? if not then there computer accessing your rotuer without your permission (securing this will fix that problem)

How often should you defrag?
PCUser.com’s answer is "only when you need to." Doing a disk clean-up, anti-virus/spyware scan and removal of temporary internet files should keep the system running smoothly, but if you notice a lag then you may need a defrag. The article provides more good information on the topic.

Lastly, I hope to impart on you a little wisdom. Research the nature of a problem instead of labelling everything a virus and hoping your software catches and removes it for you. All of this trouble could have been resolved for free if you had researched the security tool and found it to be a hoax rather than relying on McAfee to recognize this for you. Programs that are mainly anti-virus don’t catch scamware (like fake anti-virus programs), they are not viruses. In addition to an anti-virus you also need a good anti-spyware/anti-malware program. And never give out credit card info or purchase something that came to you unsolicited.
