i bought a second hand pc (packhard bell iextreeme) and the registry has become corrupted. the smart restore facility has been disabled. can i use an xp disc ro repair the registry or does it have to be the version registered to this particular pc??

Any disc will do, maybe it would have to be xp pro, if your version is pro, or home if your`s is home.
If the pc came with a serial number attached, why don`t you do a format and reinstall windows for a good clean start.

  2. I have had this if you can run an anti virus and a malware program see links below run them separately and let them do the job then at the end follow the instructions then reboot usually the disablement of restore systems are caused by malware.
