Use a registry cleaner, uninstall any active Antivirus programs as they may be eating up your RAM. Use lighter antivirus programs. IOBIT Advanced Systemcare has spyware detection and registry cleaning, Malwarebytes has Malware detection, Microsoft Onecare for a limited time can detect any viruses.

It depends on what’s making it slow. Just "doing things" often causes more problems than it causes. (I regularly repair computers that the owners "fixed" or "made faster".) If you’re sure it’s the registry, CCleaner, run on the registry (menu selection on the left side) will clean the registry. http://www.ccleaner.com/download

But there are many reasons things can be slow. If it’s your internet speed, go to http://www.speedtest.net/ If the speed there is okay, there’s nothing you can do, except choose servers closer to you. Your provider controls the speed from you to them (which is about what you’ll see on speedtest). From there out, it’s controlled by the routers on the internet and the amount of traffic there is on the internet – and no one can do anything about that (except, maybe, institute a death penalty for commercial spam).

CCleaner for me without a doubt, not only does it clean your registry but it’s has a disk cleaner which a lot better than Windows built, in addition to start up editor and other goodies, in addition to that a piece of software called Defraggler from the same company as CCleaner which you may find useful.

There’s a free program called Glary Utiliies that has lots of useful tools like a registry defrag and useless files remover and it’s a free download. Read about it and download it here. Another reason a computer is slow is due to a virus and this program can detect them too
