The very first video in the Faster Vista series goes over the important step of backing up your system registry and creating a restore point. There are no anticipated issues we may create, but this is typically the very best step to start with. Many times people install computer optimization software and perhaps do something they didn’t want to do or it causes inadvertent or unexpected side effects. That is why this video is the first in the series, it gives us an opportunity to roll back any changes we may have made in the off chance a piece of software causes issues for us.

    Chad nailed it, they are “marked” as deleted, not actually removed (that process is called formatting or permanent wiping) Wiping “writes” over the data with simple zero bits. Standard deleting actually marks the files as deleted and unindexes them so they can’t be viewed. If space is requested later those sections can be overwritten.

    They’re still there. You just can’t access them. Deleting the files in the recycle bin just tells the computer that there’s extra space on the hard drive. The files are still there, but next time you make a file it overwrites the deleted files.

    They are nearly identical, in many cases you might need to click an extra button here or there, but for the most part you should be able to do this series with 7 (and skip over the videos or just let me know if it doesn’t work)
